Alys Tomlinson

Following Broadway

Did you know that Broadway, New York’s grand boulevard, is 13 miles long? British photographer Alys Tomlinson does: she spent three years beating a path along its pavements – sorry, sidewalks – photographing the people she met along the way. The brilliant result of these walks is a collection of photographic portraits which capture the wide, wild variety of neighbourhoods and characters that Alys met on her travels. Armed with such rich visual material, it was a simple task for us to create a book of the photographs, using an extra wide wrap-around dust jacket to position each shot on the Broadway map. A useful design element, should you feel fit enough to retrace her steps.
