Our Creative Director Matt Baxter made the long and winding westbound pilgrimage from Brighton to Bristol this week at the invitation of the West of England Design Forum. WEDF had asked Matt to speak at the event Doing Good Design / Design Doing Good on Wednesday night at Bristol’s glorious harbourside Arnolfini arts house, alongside two other brilliant speakers: Sophie Gordon, Senior Copywriter at NSPCC, and Algy Batten, founder of The Art of Ping Pong. Whilst all three speakers shared a single theme – great design work which has a positive impact on the world – each brought a different and very personal approach and perspective to the subject. Matt shared Yes/No cards with the 200 or so designers, illustrators, art directors and developers in the audience and asked them to ponder a series of ethical design dilemmas, each one requiring a yes or no answer. The results were illuminating, funny and thoughtful. And good, of course.
Special thanks should go to Jamie and his team at Supple Studio for inviting Matt to speak, Emma from Taxi Studio for organising and herding, Alan at With Print in Bristol for the cards and posters (which looked beautiful) and to Ben McCluskey for the shots on the night.
