Music Giants – The Rolling Stones

It’s only rock’n’roll but we like it.

When it comes to rock royalty, they don’t get any more regal than The Rolling Stones. Celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2022, the legendary band have sold an estimated 250m records worldwide and in the UK have eight no.1 singles and 13 no.1 albums. Their awards include four Grammys, three MTV Music Awards and nine NME Awards. To honour this most enduringly iconic rock group, Royal Mail have issued 12 special stamps and a range of products. Following our creative collaboration on two previous Royal Mail Music Giants special issues – Queen in July 2020 and Paul McCartney in May 2021 – we were invited to create a visual identity for the Rolling Stones special issue. Working with Royal Mail as well as the band’s archivists, we unearthed 60 years worth of iconic imagery, graphics and ephemera, including countless iterations of the band’s instantly recognisable ‘lick’ icon. Our creative work included designs for the Presentation Pack, First Day Cover, Medals and Medal Covers, Limited Edition Prestige Stamp Book, Hand-stamps and Posters. As Mick and Keith once wrote: send it to me!

“Few bands in the history of rock have managed to carve out a career as rich and expansive as that of the Rolling Stones. They have created some of modern music’s most iconic and inspirational albums, with ground-breaking live performances to match.”
