Context
Good Space is a collaboration between founder members Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, national mental health charity Heads On and The Sussex Archaeological Society. It was established to help people connect with inclusive and creative volunteering opportunities within arts, heritage and sports organisations, helping participants to gain not just a sense of purpose and wellbeing, but also useful experience and skills.
Baxter & Bailey did a brilliant job of capturing the message and tone we were aiming for with the Good Space project. The team understood our aims and provided us with a wealth of great design, demonstrating how well they had ‘got’ us, and the project as a whole.
Solution
Our naming solution and brand identity celebrates all of the good value that Good Space delivers: self esteem, a sense of purpose and employable skills. The design language we developed – the smiling map pin logo, warmly generous colour palette and open, inviting messaging – is positive, encouraging and vibrant. Supporting this graphic language is Rosie Powell’s delightful portrait photography, showing volunteers actively engaged at their chosen venues and locations, bringing the organisation and its aims to colourful life.

From the initial conversations and workshops through to design and delivery, the Baxter & Bailey team provided excellent communication throughout. Their enthusiasm for the project and ability to translate their expertise into everyday, accessible language made the whole process a complete pleasure.

Impact
Our design system was expressly designed to be used and applied by designers and non-designers alike, using accessible and low-cost digital tools. And the flexible, super lightweight website we designed and built means that the Good Space team can promote new volunteering opportunities nimbly and with ease.
